The failure of the Lebanese state to impose the rules of the land over all its territories is purely a Lebanese government failure, no one is to blame for it except the Lebanese government and that is why this should not be used as an excuse to deny the Palestinian residents their rights.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00826733025674909285noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-807039862321845767.post-45229135003868389132010-07-22T09:38:09.067-04:002010-07-22T09:38:09.067-04:00“There are no valid reasons to place any restricti...“There are no valid reasons to place any restrictions whatsoever on a group of people who have been living in a country for over sixty years and who in all likelihoods will not be leaving any time soon.”
So why is it ok for the palestinians to place restrictions on the lebanese government? Don’t you think the government should have full access to palestinian camps and disarm them before talking about land ownership?Karimnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-807039862321845767.post-1369997054398047532010-07-22T05:41:00.249-04:002010-07-22T05:41:00.249-04:00right2work,

Yet there is also hope for the fact that the arguments favouring taking action geared to deal with the root cause of this issue appear to be gaining traction.
Keep up the good work and don't get discouraged.abukris1Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00826733025674909285noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-807039862321845767.post-72539869001828954452010-07-22T04:01:32.483-04:002010-07-22T04:01:32.483-04:00As we have side, time and again, the issue here is...As we have side, time and again, the issue here is about basic human rights. Like you said, Palestinians have been in Lebanon for apx. 60 years, and it is time that a solution is reached.

Palestinians have been in limbo, and this absolutely cannot continue. We can only hope that the politicians will not continue to dodge their duty to basic human decency.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-807039862321845767.post-81131076554598709522010-07-21T14:56:04.119-04:002010-07-21T14:56:04.119-04:00Anon,

But even if the pols want to insist that Lebanon is a special case and so it cannot afford to naturalize 400,000 individuals the Lebanese government has no right whatsoever to discriminate in land ownership , in access to jobs and other services.
If you are being technical , however, the current Lebanese law does not offer citizenship except if the father is a Lebanese. Citizenship does not pass even through the mother, which is another very contentious issue in Lebanon at the moment. So in this strict aspect they are not the same as any other Lebanese Druze or Shiite. Remember that the law that governs Lebanese citizenship is not based technically on anything else, religion or otherwise, besides the nationality of the father.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00826733025674909285noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-807039862321845767.post-37289247194810722472010-07-21T14:30:53.027-04:002010-07-21T14:30:53.027-04:00How Palestinians who were born in Lebanon and whos...How Palestinians who were born in Lebanon and whose parents were born there are considered foreigners?
They are lebanese just like the Druze or the Shiites or any othe sect for that matter.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
